The last contender from Montgomery County was knocked out when Old Mill beat Sherwood tonight in Sandy Springs Maryland. The field was in terrible shape regardless of all the work that was done by the parents at Sherwood to have the game played at there home field. Regardless of the muddy mess, Josh Furman played an amazing game and found the end zone at the end of the game that put Old Mill in there first ever State Championship game.
The game was loaded with talent at running back. On the one side Josh Furman and Jason Clements were an excellent one-two punch. The Sherwood team was lead by Kye Hopkins and Sumner Wubbenhorst. Cyrus Britt left the game early in the first quarter and never returned.
On defense Old Mill was lead again by Josh Furman. He was an unreal presence for Old Mill. Some of the staff for VOLi thought he resembled the late Sean Taylor for the Redskins. He just had a presence that dominated the game. The Sherwood defense was lead by Phil Durity.
Congratulations to Old Mill and stay tuned to see how Sherwood bounces back when all those juniors come back next year. We have a feeling next year they will return to the State Championship game.

Our friend at the Gazette John Wehmueller came up with the perfect title on this game. Running Men.
If you go to this game it will take all of 60 minutes to find the winner. Expect both teams to run all night long and let the clock run. Especially with Quaterback Eric Freniere out for this one. VOLi was at the Paint Branch vs Springbrook game this past week and we witnessed Eric go down just before half with what we think was a serious knee injury.
You can expect to hear the PA announcer call out names like Britt, Pestano and Pollard all night rushing the ball.
We spoke with Pollard just after the Paint Branch game and I asked Pollard what he thought about taking Sherwood on without your number one QB: Pollard said ” the game next week will be all about defense.”
Sherwood has been very tough all year on defense and Springbrook shut out Paint Branch this past weekend. Anything can happen in this one…

Due to the weather and capability issues at Quince Orchard – VOLiSports is calling an audible. We will be covering a very interesting game at Sherwood.
Sherwood just off a rough loss to Damascus is hosting Churchill as they look to rebound. Churchill is undefeated and taking on the Warrior’s in Sandy Springs.
It will be a tremedous game with playoff implications. Dont forget to watch tonight to see the Damascus vs Sherwood game from last week.
We do not expect any further changes in our regular season coverage this year.
Sherwood at home and 6-0 did not expect to lose to a Division 3 team. Damascus with their backs against the wall with 2 losses in a competitive Division pulled off a huge upset. Here are the highlights of the game. We will be broadcasting the game on MCPS Channel 33 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm. We are also on FiOS 1 and on FiOS On-Demand.
